The short answer

Denver International Airport (DEN) to Vail is about 2 hours by car on a good day, up to 5 hours on a bad weather day. Your three real options: shuttle, rental car, or charter.

Option 1: Airport shuttle (our recommendation)

Services like Epic Mountain Express, Peak 1 Express, and Summit Express run shared or private shuttles daily. Expect $75–$100 per person one-way for shared, $500–$900 for a private SUV or Sprinter van.

Pros: Door-to-door. Drivers know I-70 conditions. No parking headaches in Vail ($50/day). They handle luggage.

Cons: Set schedule (for shared). Extra stops if shared.

Our take: Worth it unless you're planning day trips to other areas.

Option 2: Rental car

Pros: flexibility, ability to explore nearby areas. Cons: winter driving on I-70 is not for the nervous. Chain laws apply regularly. Parking in Vail Village is expensive and limited.

Option 3: Fly into Eagle County (EGE)

35 minutes from Vail. Direct flights from Dallas, Houston, LAX, Chicago, Atlanta during winter. Easier and shorter but flights can be 1.5-2x the cost.

What nobody tells you

I-70 can close without warning due to avalanche mitigation, crashes, or weather. Build in buffer time. Never book a flight home that requires leaving Vail before 10am on Sunday — the I-70 traffic eastbound is legendary.
